About Us
Welcome to WBfurniture.co.uk, the online home of Worthington Brougham Furniture Ltd. If you’d like to know a bit more about who we are, what we do and how we got here, you’ve come to the right place!
Who is Worthington Brougham Furniture?
Worthington Brougham Furniture is Lancashire’s original outlet store for luxury sofas, dining furniture, interior accessories and lighting. After over seventeen years of trading, we know our customers want high quality furniture and sofas at a discounted price – so that is exactly what we do. Since day one we’ve specialised in providing the best possible prices on a huge range of different sofas made by famous brands from Britain, Italy and Europe. Over the years we’ve expanded our offering from famous British brand sofas and Italian leather suites to include beautiful dining furniture, cushions, rugs, and a huge selection of lamps and lighting from one of the UK’s biggest distributors. We work incredibly hard to source our stock, travelling the length and breadth of Britain and Europe to acquire the best possible deals on discounted furniture and made to order sofas while still maintaining high standards of quality. The result? A showroom, warehouse and website crammed full of amazing deals on beautiful furniture, with new and different stock arriving every week of the year.
Since 2019 we have won “Furniture Retailer of the Year” in the Manchester & North West Prestige Awards for six years running, impressing the judges with our extensive range of products, reasonable prices and excellent customer service. In their words "The judges are highly impressed by Worthington Brougham Furniture’s quality of stock, and the excellent price point at which they are able to sell them. Having grown from a small shop to a successful showroom and website through word-of-mouth within a decade of opening shows just how satisfied they leave each of their customers. The judges also commend the business for their exceptional range.".
Our commitment to customer service is reflected in our consistently good reviews and feedback from happy customers all over the country, from central London to Dumfries and Galloway.
It's taken many years for us to build our reputation for trust and honesty. Whether you visit our showroom or purchase through our website or one of our other outlets, you can rest assured that you will be dealing with our company directly. We employ no agencies, no intermediaries and no AI assistants, just good old fashioned customer service to ensure that there’s always a knowledgeable human being answering your queries. We guarantee that everything we do, say and sell is one hundred percent genuine. Whether it’s the discounts, our customer testimonials, the famous brands we sell or the leather on our Italian leather sofas, you know if it has our name on it, it’s the real deal. That’s why we didn’t hesitate to sign the ACiD charter, supporting copyright in design, for companies and individuals who wish to help preserve the rights of the original designers to be identified with their work.
Our work ethic isn’t limited to sourcing, either. We go above and beyond to make sure that the discounts you’re presented with are genuine, too, by checking the actual sale prices that our stock sells for in other stores. Our clearance stock is typically discounted 50% cheaper than anywhere else on the high street, with some pieces discounted up to 75% or more. We also provide a selection of bespoke, made to order options on selected models, which are still guaranteed to be less expensive than the same sofa on sale anywhere else.
The Story So Far
The Worthington and Brougham families have been working together in the interiors and furniture industry for over 40 years, beginning with a small shop in Cheadle, Cheshire called Past, Present and Future. PPF supplied restored antique furniture, architectural salvage, and selected handcrafted gifts and home decor to customers throughout the Greater Manchester area and beyond during the early 1980's, including some very prestigious television studio sets! Later on, the families became involved in more commercial interior design and shopfitting, including design and restoration work in Manchester City Centre and surrounding areas in the North West. With a strong reputation for trustworthiness the family business did extensive work on some of Manchester's most iconic buildings and organisations, including the Hallé St Peter's building, the Lowry Centre and a great many city centre shops, as well as a number of properties for the Catholic Church and the Church of England.
WB Clearance in Longridge Central Salerooms
Worthington Brougham Furniture itself began life as a joint venture between sisters Amelia Brougham and Noreen Worthington. W.B. Clearance as it was known at the time sold discounted sofas from a barn in Ribchester, but quickly outgrew the space when they launched their business on eBay. Next came a small shop in the village of Longridge, near Preston, followed quickly by larger premises in the old auction salerooms in the centre of the village. WB Furniture was jokingly nicknamed “World’s Best Furniture” by some of the locals, who would form a crowd every Thursday when the new stock was being unloaded. After a brief trial with a small furniture warehouse unit in Grimsaargh to supplement the space, it became apparent that a more permanent solution was needed and in 2009 the business was relocated to Clitheroe in the heart of the beautiful Ribble Valley.
Worthington Brougham Furniture in Pendle Mill Showrooms in Clitheroe
Worthington Brougham Furniture rapidly expanded to fill the entire showroom floor and a portion of the warehouse at Pendle Mill Showrooms on Pendle Road in Clitheroe. Our unique take on the discount furniture outlet was welcomed by locals who enjoyed seeing the discounted sofas displayed in an attractive and welcoming setting. It is in Clitheroe that we formed our special approach to furniture sales, allowing people to shop for themselves in a relaxed, low pressure environment while still ensuring they have all of the information and assistance they need to make an informed decision.
During our time in Clitheroe, we expanded our stock to include new styles and brands of sofas, as well as dining furniture and other seasonal homewares. Perhaps most notably we rediscovered a family connection with one of the UK’s biggest lighting distributors, allowing us to supply high quality table and floor lamps at fantastically discounted prices.
In 2023, having outgrown the space available to us, we were left with a difficult decision to make. Months of searching in the local area left us struggling to find a suitable property to house our growing business – the majority of commercial buildings around the Clitheroe area were either too small, too isolated, or just plain too expensive, and we had to widen our search to see if we could find something better further afield.
Chorley provided the answer in the form of the old Argos building on Market Street. While the building required quite a bit of work after having been empty for a period, the size and layout was a great fit and the location in the centre of Chorley, convenient for visitors travelling up the M6 and M6, made it all worthwhile. Our family history in commercial shopfitting helped us to put together a welcoming, stylish furniture showroom in the heart of Chorley town centre. Here our returning customers will find everything they’ve come to expect from us: discounted luxury sofa brands, high quality lighting, and stylish dining furniture and homewares – but with twice as much space to work with we’ve also been able to create something completely new. Bespoke, order-in options are available on many of our designer sofas and suites, although you can of course still save money by purchasing the ex-display model if you prefer. We’ve expanded our lighting department to include a fantastic range of fitted lighting from wall lights and spotlights to ceiling lights and chandeliers, as well as more order-in options on lighting as well. Our soft furnishings have expanded with a new collaboration with a British cushion manufacturer, offering a huge range of beautiful cushions in all manner of different colours and styles. We now stock mirrors and wall art, a broader range of solid wood furniture and accessories, rugs and everything in between.
We hope you’ll join us this year, and pop in for a visit! Despite all the improvements we’ve made, the core of our business remains the same – top quality products, discounted prices, and excellent customer service. If you’d like to know more about the stock we have for sale, our services, or anything else for that matter, just get in touch! You can ring our showroom on 01257824237 any time we’re open, or email [email protected] with any questions.
In Memorium
Our company and families have survived and grown through the last few difficult years, with COVID, Brexit and the ongoing economic uncertainty all providing their own unique challenges, but it is our own personal loss that hit the hardest. In 2018 Noreen unexpectedly passed away, and we can only thank our friends, family and customers for their support during what was an incredibly difficult time.
